Brent Bridwell Young Beekeeper Project

Brent Bridwell was a long time beekeeper and a LIFE member of the Indiana Beekeepers Association.  At his request on his passing, donations were made in his honor to a Young Beekeeper Project.  This project is to assist those, between the ages of 12 -20, new to beekeeping to get established with their first hive.

Rules

• For new beekeepers ages 12 – 20 years old
• Must have a mentor that is an IBA or ISBA member with at least 3 years experience
  
• Each hive will start on new equipment using wax foundation for frames
• A plaque will be placed on each colony “In memory of Brent Bridwell # __”
• Bee hive will start at mentors location
• Mentor will determine when to re-locate colony to new beekeeper’s location
• If  new beekeeper becomes disinterested, then mentor will find replacement new beekeeper or return equipment to coordinator
• Mentor/new beekeeper provides quarterly updates to coordinator (written report and/or pictures)
• Failure to comply with program rules may result in the hive being reclaimed by coordinator
• New Beekeeper will receive a 1 year membership in the IBA
• Coordinator has final say on all application approval
• After a year, the new beekeeper will send a Thank You note to Denise Bridwell
